The National Institute of Aerospace, located in Hampton, VA, is a non - profit research and graduate education institute that was created to conduct leading - edge aerospace and atmospheric research. Its goal is to develop new technologies for the nation and to help inspire the upcoming generation of scientists and engineers. NIA serves mainly as a partner with NASA Langley Research Center to help expand technology development opportunities. There are five VAL students at NIA who are considered NIA grad students. These students work in collaboration with the ones at Virginia Tech. This year NIA had a building of labs that opened which included the Acoustics and Vibrations Laboratory which allows new openings and options for those who are interested in the acoustics field to do research with hands on experiments at different locations.
